How Many Seats, How Many Shortlisted?
DFS, with its ~56 seats, runs one of the tightest shortlist-to-seat ratios among Delhi University's MBA programs — roughly 9:1 for General category. DBE at 129 seats is more accessible in absolute numbers, but demand has surged in recent years as the program's placement profile in consulting and analytics has strengthened.

Year-wise CAT Cutoff Analysis
The numbers below are final admission cutoffs — the lowest CAT percentile among students who actually accepted and joined. Shortlisting cutoffs are significantly lower, because the composite score formula weights academics alongside CAT. A student with 88 %ile and strong Class X/XII marks can absolutely get shortlisted for DFS.
DFS General category final cutoff has held at exactly 95 %ile for three consecutive batches. That's not a coincidence — it reflects a very stable, highly self-selected applicant pool for India's most affordable top-tier finance program.
🏦 DFS Final Cutoffs
| Batch | Gen | OBC | SC | EWS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025-27 | ~95 | ~88 | ~75 | ~92 |
| 2024-26 | 95 | ~87 | ~74 | ~91 |
| 2023-25 | 95 | ~86 | ~73 | ~90 |
| 2022-24 | 95 | ~85 | ~72 | ~89 |
| 2021-23 | ~92 | ~83 | ~70 | ~87 |
📈 DBE Final Cutoffs
| Batch | Gen | OBC | SC | EWS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025-27 | ~92–94 | ~85 | ~72 | ~89 |
| 2024-26 | ~92–95 | ~84 | ~71 | ~88 |
| 2023-25 | ~90–92 | ~82 | ~70 | ~86 |
| 2022-24 | ~88–92 | ~80 | ~68 | ~85 |
| 2021-23 | ~86–90 | ~78 | ~65 | ~83 |
For the 2026-28 batch: CAT 2025 was widely considered harder than CAT 2024, which typically compresses percentile scores. DFS General cutoff may ease marginally below 95 for the first time in years. DBE General cutoff is expected in the 91–94 range. Reserved category cutoffs will be proportionally relaxed, as they have been historically.
DFS or DBE — Which One Is Right for You?
This is the most common question from students who appear on both shortlists. Both departments share the same South Campus, charge identical fees (₹48,500/year), and have strong placement records. The difference is entirely in what you want to become.

At ₹97,000 over two years, these are arguably the highest-ROI MBA programs in India. The question isn't whether they're worth it — they clearly are. The question is which one fits where you're going.
DFS is for you if: you want to work in finance roles — equity research, investment banking, treasury, capital markets. The CFA affiliation is real — the faculty are finance domain experts and the peer group is finance-obsessed. DBE is for you if: you want consulting, data analytics, economic policy, or want to keep doors open across industries. The larger batch size at DBE means a more diverse peer group and recruiters like McKinsey and Google that DFS doesn't typically see.
How DFS & DBE Actually Select Students
Both departments run a joint admission through mfc.edu. The process is explicitly composite-score based — not a pure CAT filter. This means your CAT percentile matters, but so do your Class X marks, Class XII marks, your undergraduate degree, and whether you're female. Understanding this structure helps you know where you stand in the queue.
CAT 2025 — The Entry Gate
Only CAT 2025 accepted. No GMAT/XAT equivalents. For General category, sectional cutoffs also apply. SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates face no sectional minimums.
Composite Score Determines the PI Call
Your shortlisting score is a weighted mix of CAT percentile + Class X % + Class XII %. Female candidates get an extra 2.5%. Preferred UG degrees (B.Com Hons, BA Economics, BMS, BFIA) get a 5% bonus for PI shortlisting.
PI Shortlist Published on mfc.edu
Your Application Form Number (201xxxxxx) identifies you on the list — not your CAT Reg No. Check both the search tool above and the embedded PDF.
Personal Interview (and GD for DBE)
DFS runs a pure PI — 15–20 minutes, finance domain focus. DBE runs a Group Discussion followed by PI. Carry all original documents. No rescheduling is typically offered.
Final Merit List & Waitlist Rounds
Final score = 60% CAT + 40% (PI + academics). Multiple merit lists follow. Historically DFS General waitlists move 3–5 spots per round; reserved category lists move faster. Keep checking mfc.edu after each round.
Composite Score Formula — Decoded
Most aspirants treat DFS and DBE as if they're pure CAT cutoff programs. They're not. The departments publish their full weightage system on mfc.edu. Here's what it means in practice: a B.Com (Hons.) student with 92 %ile CAT and strong academics can outrank an engineering student with 94 %ile CAT. This is not a hypothetical — it happens every year.
2026-28 Admission Key Dates
DFS PIs are running now — April 27 to May 2. If you haven't confirmed your slot via the official communication from DFS, do so immediately. DBE PI dates are yet to be announced as of publication — check dbe-du.org daily.

Cracking the DFS & DBE Interview
These are substantive interviews — the panels at DFS and DBE are faculty who know their domain deeply. You will be asked about capital markets, financial instruments, economic theory, and your undergraduate subject. Generic MBA enthusiasm will not get you through. Domain preparation is non-negotiable.
🏦 DFS PI — Finance Domain Focus
DFS runs a pure personal interview — no GD. Expect a 15–20 minute structured conversation, often with a 2-member panel including finance faculty. The questions are specific and numerical. Know your valuation basics, be ready to discuss a recent market event, and have a clear narrative on why finance and why DFS over FMS or a private MBA.
- Why Finance? Why DFS specifically — and not FMS or IIM?
- CFA — enrolled? Planning to? At minimum, know what Level 1 covers
- Valuation: DCF, P/E, EV/EBITDA — explain these without notes
- RBI policy: latest repo rate decision and its rationale
- SEBI: one recent regulatory change you can discuss fluently
- Know DFS recruiters: Arcesium, EY, Axis Bank, Genpact
- Your graduation subject — expect a deep-dive question from your own UG
📈 DBE GD + PI — Economics & Analytics Focus
DBE adds a Group Discussion before the PI — typically on a current economic issue or policy question. The GD evaluates how you think, how you communicate in a group, and whether you can bring data to a qualitative debate. The PI follows, and goes into your understanding of macroeconomics, your analytical interests, and career goals.
- GD: bring one concrete data point into every point you make
- Why Business Economics? Why not a regular MBA?
- Macro: GDP, current account deficit, inflation — current numbers
- Union Budget 2025-26: at least 3 key policy announcements
- Analytics basics: regression, what Python/R is used for
- DBE recruiters: Google, McKinsey, Amazon, BCG — case prep helps
