📢 DBE — MBA Business Economics: PI shortlist released by the Department of Business Economics. Interview schedule TBA — monitor dbe-du.org and mfc.edu for updates.
⚠️ Form Number vs CAT Reg Number: DFS and DBE use their own Application Form Numbers (9-digit format: 201xxxxxx) — not your CAT 2025 Registration Number. Your form number is in the confirmation email from mfc.edu / dbe-du.org. Use that in the search tool below, not your CAT Reg No.

If you applied for DU's South Campus MBA programs this year, this is the post you've been waiting for. The PI shortlists for DFS (MBA Finance) and DBE (MBA Business Economics) have both dropped for the 2026-28 batch. If you applied through the joint portal at mfc.edu, you may be on one or both lists — and you need to act fast. DFS PIs start April 27.

How Many Seats, How Many Shortlisted?

DFS, with its ~56 seats, runs one of the tightest shortlist-to-seat ratios among Delhi University's MBA programs — roughly 9:1 for General category. DBE at 129 seats is more accessible in absolute numbers, but demand has surged in recent years as the program's placement profile in consulting and analytics has strengthened.

Historical Cutoffs
📊 Data & Trends

Year-wise CAT Cutoff Analysis

The numbers below are final admission cutoffs — the lowest CAT percentile among students who actually accepted and joined. Shortlisting cutoffs are significantly lower, because the composite score formula weights academics alongside CAT. A student with 88 %ile and strong Class X/XII marks can absolutely get shortlisted for DFS.

DFS General category final cutoff has held at exactly 95 %ile for three consecutive batches. That's not a coincidence — it reflects a very stable, highly self-selected applicant pool for India's most affordable top-tier finance program.

📊 AzuCATion Data Note: Unlike FCB/DCE (where we matched students via CAT Reg Nos), DFS and DBE use their own form numbers. We're actively building the %ile map from student reports. If you're shortlisted, share your data on WhatsApp — you'll be helping thousands of future aspirants understand actual cutoffs.

For the 2026-28 batch: CAT 2025 was widely considered harder than CAT 2024, which typically compresses percentile scores. DFS General cutoff may ease marginally below 95 for the first time in years. DBE General cutoff is expected in the 91–94 range. Reserved category cutoffs will be proportionally relaxed, as they have been historically.

DFS vs DBE
⚖️ Head-to-Head

DFS or DBE — Which One Is Right for You?

This is the most common question from students who appear on both shortlists. Both departments share the same South Campus, charge identical fees (₹48,500/year), and have strong placement records. The difference is entirely in what you want to become.

At ₹97,000 over two years, these are arguably the highest-ROI MBA programs in India. The question isn't whether they're worth it — they clearly are. The question is which one fits where you're going.

DFS is for you if: you want to work in finance roles — equity research, investment banking, treasury, capital markets. The CFA affiliation is real — the faculty are finance domain experts and the peer group is finance-obsessed. DBE is for you if: you want consulting, data analytics, economic policy, or want to keep doors open across industries. The larger batch size at DBE means a more diverse peer group and recruiters like McKinsey and Google that DFS doesn't typically see.

The Process
⚙️ Selection Process

How DFS & DBE Actually Select Students

Both departments run a joint admission through mfc.edu. The process is explicitly composite-score based — not a pure CAT filter. This means your CAT percentile matters, but so do your Class X marks, Class XII marks, your undergraduate degree, and whether you're female. Understanding this structure helps you know where you stand in the queue.

1

CAT 2025 — The Entry Gate

Only CAT 2025 accepted. No GMAT/XAT equivalents. For General category, sectional cutoffs also apply. SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates face no sectional minimums.

2

Composite Score Determines the PI Call

Your shortlisting score is a weighted mix of CAT percentile + Class X % + Class XII %. Female candidates get an extra 2.5%. Preferred UG degrees (B.Com Hons, BA Economics, BMS, BFIA) get a 5% bonus for PI shortlisting.

3

PI Shortlist Published on mfc.edu

Your Application Form Number (201xxxxxx) identifies you on the list — not your CAT Reg No. Check both the search tool above and the embedded PDF.

4

Personal Interview (and GD for DBE)

DFS runs a pure PI — 15–20 minutes, finance domain focus. DBE runs a Group Discussion followed by PI. Carry all original documents. No rescheduling is typically offered.

5

Final Merit List & Waitlist Rounds

Final score = 60% CAT + 40% (PI + academics). Multiple merit lists follow. Historically DFS General waitlists move 3–5 spots per round; reserved category lists move faster. Keep checking mfc.edu after each round.

🧮 The Numbers Behind the List

Composite Score Formula — Decoded

Most aspirants treat DFS and DBE as if they're pure CAT cutoff programs. They're not. The departments publish their full weightage system on mfc.edu. Here's what it means in practice: a B.Com (Hons.) student with 92 %ile CAT and strong academics can outrank an engineering student with 94 %ile CAT. This is not a hypothetical — it happens every year.

/* ── SHORTLISTING (to get a PI call) ── */
Shortlist Score = CAT %ile (weighted) + Class X % + Class XII %
// + 2.5% bonus → Female candidates
// + 5.0% bonus → Preferred UG degrees (PI shortlist stage)

/* ── PREFERRED UG DEGREES ── */
B.Com (Hons.) · BA/BSc (Hons.) Economics · BA (Hons.) Business Econ
BBS / BMS · BFIA / BBA(FIA)

/* ── FINAL SELECTION ── */
Final Score = CAT (60%) + PI Score + Class X % + Class XII % + UG Bonus + Female Bonus
// CAT holds 60% weight in the final — largest single component

/* ── REALISTIC SHORTLISTING FLOORS ── */
General: ~88–90 %ile minimum · ~95 %ile for final DFS conversion
OBC / EWS: ~78–83 %ile shortlisting possible with strong Class X/XII
SC / ST: ~65–72 %ile shortlisting possible · no sectional cutoffs applied
💡 The Bonus That Changes Everything: Engineering graduates with the same CAT percentile as B.Com (Hons.) students rank lower in the composite score. If you're from a non-preferred background and got shortlisted — your CAT score is doing serious heavy lifting. If you're from a preferred background, your effective composite rank is higher than your raw %ile suggests.

Interview Prep
💬 Preparation

Cracking the DFS & DBE Interview

These are substantive interviews — the panels at DFS and DBE are faculty who know their domain deeply. You will be asked about capital markets, financial instruments, economic theory, and your undergraduate subject. Generic MBA enthusiasm will not get you through. Domain preparation is non-negotiable.

🏦 DFS PI — Finance Domain Focus

DFS runs a pure personal interview — no GD. Expect a 15–20 minute structured conversation, often with a 2-member panel including finance faculty. The questions are specific and numerical. Know your valuation basics, be ready to discuss a recent market event, and have a clear narrative on why finance and why DFS over FMS or a private MBA.

  • Why Finance? Why DFS specifically — and not FMS or IIM?
  • CFA — enrolled? Planning to? At minimum, know what Level 1 covers
  • Valuation: DCF, P/E, EV/EBITDA — explain these without notes
  • RBI policy: latest repo rate decision and its rationale
  • SEBI: one recent regulatory change you can discuss fluently
  • Know DFS recruiters: Arcesium, EY, Axis Bank, Genpact
  • Your graduation subject — expect a deep-dive question from your own UG

📈 DBE GD + PI — Economics & Analytics Focus

DBE adds a Group Discussion before the PI — typically on a current economic issue or policy question. The GD evaluates how you think, how you communicate in a group, and whether you can bring data to a qualitative debate. The PI follows, and goes into your understanding of macroeconomics, your analytical interests, and career goals.

  • GD: bring one concrete data point into every point you make
  • Why Business Economics? Why not a regular MBA?
  • Macro: GDP, current account deficit, inflation — current numbers
  • Union Budget 2025-26: at least 3 key policy announcements
  • Analytics basics: regression, what Python/R is used for
  • DBE recruiters: Google, McKinsey, Amazon, BCG — case prep helps
📋 Documents to carry for both: DFS/DBE Application Form printout · CAT 2025 Scorecard · Class X and XII marksheets + certificates · All UG semester marksheets + degree/provisional certificate · Category certificate if applicable (OBC-NCL must be current year) · Aadhaar/Photo ID · 4–6 passport photos. Bring originals plus two self-attested photocopies of each.
⚠️ Key Difference to Remember: DFS has no Group Discussion — it's a clean panel interview. DBE has GD first, then PI. If you're appearing for both (which you might be, given dates differ), prepare for them as two completely separate exercises. Your DFS prep is finance-specific and analytical; your DBE prep needs a GD-ready economic worldview on top.
FAQ
❓ FAQ

Common Questions, Answered

I applied for both DFS and DBE. Can I attend both PIs?+
Yes — they have separate shortlists, separate PIs, and separate merit lists. DFS PI runs April 27–May 2; DBE dates are TBA. If they don't clash, attend both. Many students receive offers from both programs. You choose which to accept after comparing merit list positions and seats available.
My CAT %ile is 90 (General). Can I convert DFS?+
DFS General final cutoff has held at ~95 for three straight batches. At 90 %ile, shortlisting is plausible if your composite score (Class X/XII + CAT) is strong, but converting is very difficult. You'd likely need 2–3 waitlist rounds and an outstanding PI. For DBE at 90 %ile General, conversion is more realistic, especially with strong academics.
Which program is better — DFS or DBE?+
Finance career → DFS. Consulting/analytics/economics → DBE. Same fees, same campus, similar placements in absolute numbers. DFS has higher CAT cutoff, CFA affiliation, pure finance culture. DBE has more seats, broader recruiter set (McKinsey, Google, BCG), and is better if you want to keep options open. Both offer exceptional ROI at ₹97,000 total tuition.
Is B.Com (Hons.) background genuinely advantageous?+
Yes, officially documented. B.Com (Hons.), BA/BSc (Hons.) Economics, BMS, and BFIA/BBA(FIA) holders get a 5% composite score bonus at the shortlisting stage and 2.5% at final selection. This shifts your effective composite rank meaningfully in a competitive pool. An engineering student with the same CAT percentile ranks lower than a B.Com (Hons.) student by design.
My DFS search shows "not found." What should I check?+
Check: (1) You're using your DFS Application Form Number — 9 digits starting with 201 from your mfc.edu confirmation email. This is NOT your CAT Registration Number. (2) You actually applied for the DFS program. (3) Enter only digits, no spaces or letters. If still not found after all checks, use the DFS PDF above to search by scrolling — or open in Drive and use Ctrl+F to search by name.
How does the waitlist work at DFS/DBE?+
After the first merit list, candidates who don't accept their seats free up slots for the next round. DFS General waitlist has historically moved 3–5 spots per round; reserved category lists move faster. Multiple rounds happen in quick succession — monitor mfc.edu actively. Not accepting in the given window means losing your seat permanently.
Does work experience help in the PI?+
Work experience is not part of the formal composite score formula but makes a significant difference in the PI. Finance experience (banking, equity research, CA articles, treasury) gives DFS interviewers context to ask sharper, more credible questions — which you can answer better. Analytics or economics work helps at DBE. Freshers must compensate with depth of academic knowledge and a crisp "why now, why here" career story.
