⚙️ How Selection Works

The Complete Selection Process

FCB uses a two-stage model — composite score for shortlisting, then GDPI for final merit.

1

CAT 2025 Score (Primary Filter)

Only CAT 2025 accepted. No GMAT/XAT. Section-wise minimums apply (~60–70 %ile per section for General).

2

Composite Shortlisting Score

FCB combines CAT %ile + Class 10 % + Class 12 % + Graduation %. Strong academics can compensate for a relatively lower CAT score.

3

Physical Document Verification

Before GDPI — carry originals + 2 attested copies. Any discrepancy = candidature cancelled on the spot.

4

Group Discussion (GD)

10–12 candidates per group. Current affairs / business topic. Evaluated on content, communication, leadership, listening. First 30 seconds matter most.

5

Personal Interview (PI)

15–20 minutes. Domain knowledge for chosen specialisation (IB/HRD/BA), academics, current affairs, career goals. Strong domain awareness is rewarded.

6

Final Merit List

CAT score + academic marks + GDPI performance. Category-wise lists published. Program preference (IB/HRD/BA) considered during allocation.

Shortlisting Score = f(CAT Overall %ile, Class 10 %, Class 12 %, Graduation %)
// Exact weights not published — CAT is the dominant factor
Final Merit = CAT Weight + Academic Weight + GD Score + PI Score
// GDPI typically contributes 30–40% of final score in DU-type programs

❓ FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm shortlisted with ~88 %ile (General). Should I be worried?+
Not necessarily. FCB shortlists using a composite score including academics. If your Class 10/12/graduation marks are strong, you may have been shortlisted with a lower CAT. However the final merit list post-GDPI is stricter — General typically needs 90%+ for a seat in IB/HRD. Focus entirely on GDPI performance now. A stellar GDPI can compensate significantly.
What's the difficulty ranking for IB vs HRD vs BA?+
MBA IB is the most competitive — final admit cutoff reached ~96.84 %ile for General in 2025-27. MBA HRD is next (~94.65), and MBA BA is currently most accessible (~91.53). You rank your preference at the GDPI stage — high scorers get IB first, then HRD, then BA.
Is work experience an advantage at DU FCB?+
FCB does not mandate work experience, but it helps in the PI if you have relevant domain experience (EXIM, finance, HR, analytics). Freshers are not disadvantaged if they have strong academics and a coherent career narrative.
Can I hold competing offers while waiting for FCB?+
Yes. FCB results come in May-June, by which time most IIM/IIT MBA offers are already out. Keep all options open and compare on specialisation, fees, and placement ROI.
My category on the shortlist seems wrong. What do I do?+
Go to commerce.du.ac.in and verify your application. Carry your original category certificate (OBC-NCL must be current year) to physical verification. Raise any mismatch with the admissions cell on the day immediately.
What does "provisional" shortlist mean — can candidature actually be cancelled?+
Yes. Cancellations happen for: (a) eligibility documents not in order, (b) graduation marks below 50% (45% for reserved), (c) final-year students who don't complete degree by Sept 15, 2026, (d) misrepresentation in the application. If your documents are clean, you're fine.
